DCMO BOCES offers Career & Technical Education (CTE) as an educational service to our component schools. Under the New York State Education Commissioner’s Regulations, students enrolled in an approved school district or BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) program may earn academic credits for Math, English, and Science using a variety of approaches once the student has met the graduation exam requirement. Flexibility in attaining course requirements can be achieved through fully integrated CTE programs of study, through specialized CTE courses for each of the final units in English, Science and Mathematics or through a combination of integrated course work through specialized and integrated CTE courses. All CTE programs at the DCMO BOCES have been approved by the State Education Department. Consultation with High School Guidance Counselors and High School administration will be necessary in order for the final unit of credit to be awarded to the student on a school by-school basis.
The DCMO BOCES Daycare/Pre-school program is open to the public and serves children ages three to five years of age. The program provides developmentally appropriate experiences for children, helping to promote a positive self-image and develop the desire to become enthusiastic learners. The activities address self-help skills, positive social skills, gross and fine motor skills and school readiness skills.
For individuals 21 years of age or older, DCMO BOCES offers an individualized program of instruction designed to prepare students to take the High School Equivalency Diploma's test. These classes are free of charge and many of our students also qualify to take Career & Technical Education courses during this program. Classes are held at both the Chenango and the Harold Campus.
This is a full-day alternative program granting academic credit to students grades 7-12. The Career Academy gives students the opportunity to learn beyond the traditional academic boundaries. Students have an opportunity to work with real-world problems and challenges to come up with solutions and ways to manage. The project-based program approach emphasizes learning to learn, problem solving and teamwork.
The BOCES Special Education Department provides a variety of special education and related services to students with disabilities in our component districts. Currently we are serving approximately 245 school aged students in our self-contained classrooms, 60% of whom receive services in regular education buildings throughout our component districts. In addition, BOCES staff support the efforts of school districts to provide services to children within their home school through the provision of specialists in speech, occupational and physical therapy, in addition to itinerant teachers. Services are also available for preschoolers with disabilities.
