Zoom In

Zoom_In.pdf

The Zoom In routine asks learners to:

      • observe gradual portions of an image closely
      • develop a tentative hypothesis with each new portion reveal

Documenting Thinking

In this routine, students are generally sharing their thinking at each step along the way before moving on to the next one. This allows the class to build on the group's thinking and often results in richer discussions. Allow time for the group to review each of the prompts, discussing how their thinking developed during the routine.

the routine in action

Here are some examples of how this routine can be used across the curriculum:

  • History: examine a key event in history through an image (video)
  • Science: to examine a concept through an image
  • English: visual literacy or components of a text to examine how writers use techniques effectively
