The Preliminary course focuses on the nature of practice in art making, art criticism and art history. Through different investigations students explore the role of, and the relationships between the artists, artworks, the world and the audience. By considering the many ways that Visual Arts may be interpreted, students learn to develop their own informed point of view and develop meaning and focus in their work. The opportunity to experiment with a wide variety of media and expressive forms, builds on investigations of the art world and the development of technical skills.
The HSC course learning opportunities focus on how students may develop their own practice of art making, art criticism, and art history, applied to selected areas of interest. Students develop their own informed points of view in increasingly independent ways and use different interpretive frameworks in their investigations. Students learn about the relationships between artists, artworks, the world and audiences within the art world. Students further develop meaning and focus in their work.
