As a CEC, there is no HSC examination for the Numeracy course. Assessment is school-based. Teachers award a grade in Year 11 using the Common Grade Scale and an assessment grade in Year 12 using the Achievement Level Descriptions for reporting achievement.
The Numeracy CEC course is appropriate for students who need further opportunities to develop essential numeracy skills required for everyday life, including work, learning, community engagement, and personal contexts.
This may include students who are yet to demonstrate achievement of the HSC minimum standard in numeracy. Students who have already met the minimum standard are better placed studying Mathematics Standard or Mathematics Advanced in Year 11.
This course supports students preparing for post-school employment or further training. It is particularly useful when combined with vocational education and training (VET), where a level of mathematics beyond Year 10 is beneficial, or for maintaining mathematical knowledge developed in Stage 5.
