Marine Studies assessments will be formative based on students knowledge, skills and practical capabilities.
A student must demonstrate to the teacher they can effectively carry out the various skills and tasks to the standard required.
As Marine Studies is a content endorsed course there is no external HSC Examination and therefore will not be counted towards your ATAR. There will, however, be a mark provided to NESA at the end of the course based on the assessment schedule for Year 12.
Marine Studies is a Content Endorsed Course that provides real world experiences through a range of practical activities and field trips including gaining a maritime boat licence, snorkelling, diving skills, first aid and water safety awareness. Students can participate in work experience if required in a range of marine environments locally and beyond.
In preparation for the optional field trip to Lady Elliott Island (QLD) students develop skills in water safety, swimming and snorkelling.
In Year 10 St Peter's students achieved a Senior First Aid Certificate which is useful for Marine Studies and marine first aid.
Students who study Marine Studies have opportunities to progress to the workforce or post school further studies at TAFE, private providers or tertiary study to gain further marine qualifications or the world of work in boat building, seafood chef, aquaculture or dive master.
