Students in the Industrial Technology - Timber Products and Furniture Technologies course cover a range of topics during the Preliminary and HSC courses including:
Industry Studies,
Design,
Management and Communication,
Production; and
Industry Related Manufacturing Technologies.
The HSC course also includes the study of an organisation and management of an individual business; and the application of design principles in the production of a Major Project and associated portfolio.
The assessment programs will consist of a practical and theory based assessment task and will require students to be assessed on their knowledge and understanding of the organisation, management, manufacturing processes and techniques used within the industry as well as their knowledge, skills and understanding in designing, managing, problem solving, communicating and the safe use of manufacturing processes and techniques through the design of a Major Practical Project.
Topics, task weightings and specific requirements for each course are distributed to students at the commencement of study via their Assessment Handbook.
There is a 1.5 hour external examination for students undertaking the course which involves multiple choice questions, short answer and extended response questions.
In the Preliminary course, students must acquire the knowledge and relevant practical skills, through the construction of a range of projects. Students are also required to complete project work and an industry study, also an introduction to processes, skills and practices relevant to the design, management, communication and construction of practical projects.
In the HSC course the students must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a range of materials, process, tools, equipment, machinery and technology associated with the timber and furniture industries and the course includes the development, management and communication of a Major Practical Project and folio.
Students undertaking the Industrial Technology - Timber Products and Furniture Technologies course have opportunities to undertake further studies at University or TAFE, in areas such as Furniture Design, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Cabinet Making, Carpentry, Set Design and Building, Architecture and Engineering.
