Students in the HMS course cover two focus areas during the Preliminary course including:
Health for individuals and communities.
The body and mind in motion.
In addition to this they will complete:
One collaboration study; and
Two depth studies on the above topics.
During the HSC Course students cover two focus areas including:
Health in an Australian and global context; and
Training for improved performance.
Two depth studies are also to be embedded into Year 12 on the above focus areas.
The HSC school-based assessment program will consist of a maximum of four assessment tasks.
HSC Examination
Section I – Multiple Choice (20 Marks)
There will be objective response questions to the value of 20 marks.
Section II (56 Marks)
This section will contain short-answer questions. There will be 9 to 12 items in total.
At least 3 items will be worth 6 to 8 marks.
Section III (24 Marks)
There will be 2 extended-response questions worth 12 marks each – one question based on each focus area: Health in an Australian and Global Context, Training for Improved Performance.
Students who studied Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) and those who enjoyed PDHPE in Years 7-10 are encouraged to study this course.
This course prepares students for further study in health science and human movement courses at university and other tertiary institutions. Career opportunities include: Teacher, ambulance officer, police officer, fitness instructor, health promotion officer, sports psychologist, teacher, exercise and sports scientist, physiotherapist, nurse, medical practitioner, sports journalist.
