Preliminary English Advanced course requires students to study a range of types of texts drawn from prose fiction, drama, poetry, nonfiction, film, media and digital texts. Students are expected to support their study of texts with their own wide reading.
HSC English Advanced course requires to closely study four prescribed texts, one drawn from each of the following categories: Shakespearean drama, prose fiction and poetry or drama. The remaining text may be film, media or nonfiction text or may be selected from one of the categories above. The selection of texts for Module C: The Craft of Writing may be drawn from any types of texts and do not contribute to the pattern of prescribed texts for the course requirements. Students must study one related text of their own choosing in the common module: Texts and Human Experiences.
The first 50 students at the end of Semester 1 will be offered a letter of recommendation for this course. Discussion with the English Leader of Learning will be required for students who wish to undertake English Advanced and who do not receive a letter of recommendation.
Students who study English Advanced have the opportunity to progress to tertiary study at university and could consider roles in professions which require excellent communication and literacy skills such as teaching, law, business, public relations and human resource.
