During the HSC course students cover topics including: Innovation and Emerging Technologies, including a case study of innovation. The study of designing and producing includes a Major Design Project. The project folio includes a project proposal and management, project development and realisation, and project evaluation.
The assessment programs will consist of practical and theory based assessment tasks and will require students to be assessed by means of a compulsory case study and a Major Design Project which includes a proposal, folio and product, system or environment based project.
Topics, task weightings and specific requirements for each course are distributed to students at the commencement of study via their Assessment Handbook.
There is a 1.5 hour external examination for students undertaking the course which involves multiple choice questions, short answer and extended response questions.
Design and Technology Stage 6 is designed to develop students confidence, competence and responsibility in designing, producing and evaluating to meet both needs and opportunities, and to understand the factors that contribute to successful design and production.
In the Preliminary course, student’s study designing and producing, which includes the completion of at least two design projects. In the Preliminary course, students must participate in hands-on practical activities.
In the HSC course the comprehensive study of designing and producing that were studied in the Preliminary course are synthesised and applied. This culminates in the development and realisation of a Major Design Project and the presentation of a case study.
Students undertaking the Design & Technology course have opportunities to undertake further studies in areas such as Design & Technology, Product Design, Web Design & Technologies, Education. Students can pursue careers as Product Development, Industrial Design, Production Design or Secondary Teaching.
