Business Studies students learn about role and nature of business, types of businesses including classifications, influences in the business environment, business growth and decline, stages of the business life cycle, contemporary business issues, aspects of business using hypothetical situations and business case studies.
Topics include:
Nature of Business
Business Management
Business Planning
Operations
Marketing
Finance
Human Resources.
Business Studies HSC assessment programs will consist of a maximum of four assessment tasks and will require students to answer objective response questions, short answer questions, submit a business report and an extended response question.
Topics, task weightings and specific requirements for each course are distributed to students at the commencement of study via their Assessment Handbook.
There is an external examination HSC for students undertaking the course.
Business Studies students learn about role of operations management, influences on globalisation, technology, quality expectations, cost-based competition, government policies, legal regulation, environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility, operations processes and strategies.
Students in the Preliminary course are required to submit a research project investigating the operation of a small business or planning the establishment of a small business.
Students of Business Studies have the opportunity to progress on to tertiary study in the areas of Marketing, Financial Services or enter the business world in a range of different roles such as Business Analysis, Banking, Stockbroking, Human Resource Management and Financial Planning.
