Have you heard the name Stuart Diver?
He was born in NSW on the 14 of January 1970 which makes him 51 years old. He is currently the general manager of the Thredbo ski resort but did you know what happened to him in 1997 when he was in his 20s?
It was a normal night until 11:40 pm when a disaster struck. A water-main burst occurred at the top of a hill and the running water caused his ski lodge to collapse in a very bad landslide. It was one of the deadliest landslides in history. It tore down two ski lodges and Stuart Diver happened to be sleeping in one with his wife Sally. There was a crunch and a crash as everyone plunged into the icy snow. Some people thought that there would be no survivors at all, but a miracle happened. Stuart diver was found 66 hours later next to his wife Sally. He was buried in the cold, icy snow with just his shorts on. Due to the freezing temperatures, he had deadly frostbite on his toes. Stuart has had very bad trauma ever since the situation.
With no food and ice melting quickly, Stuart was close to death from the landslide, but he did not give up. He had hope that he could get out of this disaster and fortunately he did, but sadly his wife didn’t make it out as she suffocated in the landslide. As a result of all the trauma and PTSD, Stuart had a heart attack. He unbelievably survived this as well.
After the landslide, Stuart was rushed to the national Canberra hospital where he was treated for his numerous injuries and obvious shock. Thankfully, years later, Stuart found some happiness and remarried and had a child. But unbelievably and sadly a few years later, his new wife also passed away from cancer. Now Stuart diver has been raising money for cancer and has studied for a science degree as well as been crowned general manager of Thredbo ski resort. He is still living in Thredbo to this day. Stuart Diver even hosts his very own podcast called 'The Elements' that explains other disasters that have happened in Australia. In conclusion, Stuart Diver has been through some rough situations in his life, but has still lived to tell his stories today. He is obviously one of the luckiest people alive! As of today, (20th August 2021) Stuarts life is happier than ever as he is alive and healthy.
