INTRODUCTION
Baz Luhrmann is an award winning film director who has won over 20 awards, and directed almost 40 movies. He is best known for his movies Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby. He has been directing ever since his first movie, Strictly Ballroom, in 1992.
EARLY LIFE
Baz Luhrmann grew up in Herons Creek, New South Wales. His parents ran various businesses, such as a movie theatre. There he grew interest in theatre and music. His parent’s broke up when he was twelve, and he decided to stay with his father. A few years later he moved to Sydney with his mother to escape his new stepmother. His Father had influenced him and his two brothers, Brett and Chris, to keep their hair very short. In Sydney he was able to make his own choices about his appearance.
GRADUATION, ACTING AND DIRECTING
Baz Luhrmann won a role in Winter Of Our Dreams and A Country Practice before getting accepted into NIDA and graduating in 1985 with a degree in acting. He wrote and directed a play called Strictly Ballroom and worked on several opera productions. His next movies included Romeo + Juliet in 1996, which was a modern version of a play by Shakespeare.
Baz Luhrmann has won over 15 awards since 1992. He married Catherine Martin in 1997 and they had two children, Lillian Luhrmann, and William Luhrmann. Baz Luhrmann is still making movies to this day and his newest one comes out next year.
