Information about $0.99/each Letterland Apps for Students At Home
As a reminder: Pre-Made Letterland Slides have been built for Grades K-2 and are housed in Google Drive. These are shared with all K-2 teachers, reading specialists and elementary EC teachers. If you are unfamiliar with these resources you'll need access to SmartNotebook on your school-issued laptop (or classroom desktop) as well as your Letterland manuals.

In consultation with the Department of Public Instruction, UNC-TV started today to provide programming for students in grades four through 12 designed to complement existing remote learning efforts from the state’s public schools. The educational programming block will be available over the air on the North Carolina Channel and streamed live at unctv.org/athomelearning. This vetted, curriculum-informed programming is available Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., for grades four through eight, and from 1 to 6 p.m., for grades nine through 12 (actual times may vary, please check the weekly schedule online at unctv.org/ahl). This joint effort will be adapted as needed over coming weeks to best serve the needs of North Carolina students.
UNC-TV and PBS have also curated free, standards-aligned videos, interactives, lesson plans and more at unctv.pbslearningmedia.org.
Raz Kids- Online access to leveled text as well as grade level text for TDR instruction. Teachers have the ability to assign students comprehension quizzes as well as graphic organizers. Requires a subscription that should be set up by your media center coordinator at the school level.
BrainPop -Online access to short video links that can be embedded into learning platforms for students to access at home.
StorylineOnline - Streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside illustrations, supplemental resources at www.storylineonline.net
CommonLit- (Grades 3-5 only) Aligns with Google Classroom with access to text sets, literary devices, thematic studies and genre. Assigned resources are searchable by Lexile or Grade level.
Epic! Online - Access to free books online that can be linked into Google Classroom for TDR instruction or reading response. Books are leveled by grade level or reading level and can be assigned to students through Epic's online system. Lower levels of text can be read to students online. Parents/students will need to be set up through the teacher account to get free access at home.
ReadWorks- Access to leveled comprehension passages ideal for grades K-5th. Teachers also have access to Article-A-Day sets, paired text, question sets, or eBooks. Great for nonfiction resources, but does have access to fiction resources as well. Resources can be assigned within ReadWorks program or saved as .PDF and uploaded into Google Classroom.
NewsELA - Access to leveled passages and text sets ideal for grades 2nd-5th. Leveled passages are organized by Lexile or grade level. Teachers can create a classroom and then assign students to read passages and complete writing prompts or comprehension quizzes. Teachers can also download resources as .PDF and upload into Google Classroom. Teachers can choose from pre-selected text sets or build their own based on needs of their students. Majority of resources are nonfiction.
TumbleBooks Online- Tumblebooks includes a collection of books that can be read online by linking the book selection.
PreK/K Scholastic Learn- At-Home - Another week of lessons have been updated to the Pre K/K Scholastic Site. There are a total of 10 days worth of instruction through online books as well as video and activities (in Spanish) for students to complete.
