Description:
The Jerry McGee Endowed Scholarship was created in honor of Jerry McGee for his 24+ years of service as executive director of the North Carolina Athletic Directors’ Association (NCADA). This award is unique in that it honors student-athletes who have distinguished themselves by overcoming adversity and returning to excel beyond expectations in their respective scholastic athletic sport(s).
Application Deadline: March 18th
Requirements
1. Nominee must be a senior student athlete participating on at least 2 varsity teams for at least two years in each sport and earned at least one varsity letter in each of the two sports.
2. Nominee must have overcome adversity that affected their level of play or ability to participate in NCHSAA sports.
3. Nominee must have returned to sport(s) and demonstrated achievement and bravery beyond expectations.
4. Nominee must demonstrate good sportsmanship and ethical behavior on and off the playing field.
5. Nominee must meet at least the minimal NCHSAA academic requirements and either have a B+ average, rank in the top 25%, or have an ACT score of 24+ or SAT score of 1100+.
6. Nominations/applications must be completed and submitted by a school administrator (i.e. coach, athletic trainer, principal, etc.) along with a letter of recommendation by the athletic director.
7. Nominee must complete scholar/essay application.
8. School athletic director must be an NIAAA member and a member of NCADA.
9. Supplemental materials will not be accepted.
Award Amount: $3,000
