The North Side Band Olympics
The North Side Band Olympics is an exciting program used to develop musical skills through team-building and healthy competition. The program uses "gamification" to enhance the learning environment of the sixth grade band members on the North Side of Davenport. The program consists of the following:
1) Olympiads choose band members as possible teammates and select possible countries. From this information, Olympic Teams are formed. These teams are then assigned a country based on the members' preferences. Meet this year's teams HERE!
2) The Olympic Teams compete in a series of ten events throughout the school year, earning bronze, silver or gold medals in each event. Other leaderboards and special awards are common throughout the school year. The ten events are as follows:
Note Naming Sprint
Rhythm Relay, Part One
Bugler's Dream, Part One
Rhythm Relay, Part Two
Tic-Tac-Toe Caroling
Music Theory Pentathlon
Elementary/Intermediate Solo Festival
Songs of the Homeland
Scales Triathlon
Bugler's Dream, Part Two
3) At the end of the year an Awards Ceremony is held, recognizing outstanding achievement by the individual Olympiads and the Olympic Teams!
