Thank you so much to my SEAD family, Ashley Doolittle, Caitlin Rosario Kelly, Dean Burns, my Dartmouth friends, and my family family, the Richardsons. All of you have kept me sane and all of you helped make this graduation a reality. - Faydra Richardson
It is our pleasure to award the 2020 Grimes Prize for General Improvement, recognizing the graduating student who has made the most significant academic progress during their undergraduate years. An African and African American Studies major from Tallahassee, FL, this student has demonstrated resourcefulness, strong focus, academic flexibility, and measured thoughtfulness, as she has worked to achieve her academic goals.
From the beginning of her time at Dartmouth, this student has shown resiliency, even before setting foot inside a classroom. After falling and seriously injuring her arm during First-Year Trips, this student took the subsequent recovery from surgery with thoughtfulness and positivity, all while beginning her academic journey as a first-year student.
This student has proactively explored and taken advantage of the liberal arts education Dartmouth has to offer by taking courses in classical studies, education, art, Latin, Greek Studies, and anthropology. She spent time in Paris, France as part of a summer study abroad through the Guarini Institute and acted as an Educational Access Advisor for the Center of Social Impact.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, this student has accepted the responsibility of being a leader for her peers, stepping up for her peers while balancing her own challenges.
For her remarkable progress and significant achievements, please join us in honoring FAYDRA DANIELLE RICHARDSON as this year’s Grimes Prize recipient.
