Armond Dorsey
There are few students that make an impression like Armond. He is well-educated, well-traveled, and well-read, while maintaining an air of approachability, a humor you can see in his eyes, and a confident but inclusive spirit that is borne of the greatest asset to any person seeking education of any kind: boundless curiosity.
With his intelligence, humor, and multiple talents he is a “bridge” that unites people, communities, identities, and ideas. Faculty and staff alike have been impressed with Armond’s ability to juggle his role as an OPAL coordinator, research as an OPAL Education Fellow, and leader of several student groups and initiatives such as Minorities Association of Pre-medical Students (MAPS) and the Black Student Mentoring Program alongside performing well in his rigorous academic program and his practice and study of music.
Armond is an exceptional young person and leader. He is self-aware, empathetic, and humble, genuinely and actively seeking feedback to challenge himself to be his best. He shows up in ways that empower and validate others. His intersectional work to uplift, celebrate, and unite the many facets of identity within the Black community have made Dartmouth a more welcome, inclusive, intersectional experience – often infused with fun and laughter. Armond is not afraid to step into a space literally or figuratively, which led to him occupy and open up spaces like Casque & Gauntlet, Wind Ensemble, New Student Orientation, and the campaign to end gender-based violence. He bridges divides between campus organizations, student identities, students, and administration, touching the lives of his peers. He has also been instrumental as a FYSEP student leader and earned Global Health and QuestBridge Scholar recognition.
Armond inspired many students to travel internationally after hearing about his study abroad program in Vienna, an experience that he credits as one of the most transformative of his time at Dartmouth. He encourages students, especially those who identify as first-generation or who have less access to resources, to dream big and take advantage of every opportunity. Thank you Armond for leading by example, reaching back to lift up others, and celebrating the success of your peers’ and community at every turn. Armond, we are so proud to present you with this Legacy Award.
