Office of the Assistant Superintendent

for Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment  (CIA)

As educators, we are "Merchants of Hope" who impart knowledge, facilitate creativity,  and dare to be different in our daily thinking and being. This boldness plants the smallest seed of hope in our children.  Our faith and belief, then,  make all things possible.  It is the love that we share that nurtures their souls and develops endless and great possibilities.  If hope (for some reason) is deferred, it makes the heart sick, and all is lost.  But more powerfully, when hope is instilled, a TREE OF LIFE is cultivated.  At this pivotal moment, we are granted the honor and privilege of being allowed the opportunity to watch each individual's potential become ultimately fulfilled.                                -Carlita S. Mrs. Carlita S. King

Assistant Superintendent

for Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment

The Darlington County Board of Education named Mrs. Carlita S. King Assistant Superintendent for the Division of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in September 2013.   Her responsibility will be to triangulate curriculum, instruction, & assessments so that each child meets or exceeds grade-level standards to achieve the expectations of the profile of the SC graduate.  She will also provide resources, support, & training for teachers, staff, and students as they develop individual growth plans that allow them to use technology appropriately and effectively as life-long learners.

“I believe Mrs. King's skills and experience will be an asset to our Curriculum & Instruction department and our district as a whole,” said the former superintendent who appointed her. “She is not only curriculum-based and technology-savvy, but she also does an exceptional job of building collaborations between teachers, students, parents, and the community. As a middle school principal, she has experience working with all three levels – elementary, middle, and high schools. We are glad to have Mrs. King on our leadership team.”

King has served as the principal of Darlington Middle School since 2007. During her tenure at the school, Mrs. King implemented a successful single-gender program and led enhancements to the school’s science and technology magnet. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education from South Carolina State University, a Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Clemson University.
