Human Body

In this unit, the students will be reviewing 5 basic human body systems: cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, skeletal, and muscular. We will spend about a week on each body system. The students will get their notes for each system at the beginning of the week, and they will take a quiz at the end of the week. Please ensure your child is reviewing their notes from the day they get them for about 5-10 minutes each night. This will help them be successful on the weekly quizzes. Also, I will provide links to websites and on-line study tools to help the students prepare for their quizzes. In this unit, the students will also be learning about cells, both plant and animal, and heredity.

The following Common Core Standards will be taught during this unit:

5.L.1 Understand how structures and systems of organisms (to include the human body) perform functions necessary for life.

5.L.1.1 Explain why some organisms are capable of surviving as a single cell while others require many cells that are specialized to survive.

5.L.1.2 Compare the major systems of the human body (digestive, respiratory, circulatory, muscular, skeletal, and cardiovascular) in terms of their functions necessary for life.
