As in previous years, we use iReady Math. As part of this series, a math practice book will be used for homework. The math series is aligned to the Pennsylvania Common Core standards. Our math curriculum is designed to engage students in making sense of mathematical ideas. Four concepts will be addressed throughout grade 4.
They include:
Numbers and Operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
Data Analysis and Probability (surveys and line plots)
Geometry and Measurement (perimeter, angles, and area, solids, and 3-D)
Algebra (patterns and functions)
Ideally, the students work cooperatively in pairs and in small groups as well as on their own. Math homework is given almost nightly and is referenced in their student planners using page numbers. Math assessments are given periodically and are scored based on the benchmarks as referenced through PA common core standards. There is a separate math report card using 4-3-2-1 grading scale.
Math homework should never take longer than 15 minutes. I am always available first thing in the morning to help with any assignments.
Reflex Math is a web-based program created for repetition of basic math facts. Students will use this within their math classes in addition to i-Ready Math. Both of these programs may be used at home also to increase your child's math fact fluency.
