Head of Key Stage 5
Pay Range: MS- UPS plus TLR commensurate with experience
Work Patterm: Full time, 33 hours per week
Start date: September 2024
Core Purpose
The leader for post 16 provision will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the sixth form, the academic progress and pastoral welfare of the sixth form students and the operation of systems and processes for the effective management of the sixth form.
Main duties and responsibilities
General responsibilities
Ensure a high quality of pastoral care and student support in the Sixth Form
Track, monitor and enhance students’ academic performance
Promote the Sixth Form to ensure retention of existing Year 11 pupils and the recruitment of external applicants
Lead and manage the UCAS process and liaise with Projects and Partnerships in the provision of industry experience, apprenticeships and careers advice and guidance
To monitor student destinations and ensure no NEETs
Specific responsibilities
To encourage students to contribute positively to the life of the Sixth Form and the wider life of the college
To contribute to the development and delivery of a structured and purposeful tutorial programme
To monitor Sixth Form attainment and effort grades
To oversee reports on all Sixth Formers and review reports with students and parents
To liaise with parents, staff and other agencies to support students
To oversee the administration of the UCAS process including on results day/clearing in the summer holiday
To review post-16 examination results in August and at other times during the year
To lead and develop the use of Sixth Form data
To ensure that the School Leadership Team and staff are advised regarding national developments with reference to University policies, careers and specific areas of Sixth Form curriculum
To deal with routine student absence, lateness and disciplinary matters
To organise the private study arrangements for Sixth Form students
To organise appropriate careers advice and guidance for post 16 students
To monitor and record onwards destinations for students and oversee ESA alumni
To work with Year 11 tutors and students and to ensure the smooth transfer of students to the Sixth Form
To organise and run a Year 12 induction programme
To develop leadership in the Sixth Form
Teaching and Learning
Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
Teaching, according to their educational needs, the students assigned to you, including the setting and marking of creative works.
Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of students, in each case having regard to the mission and curriculum of the College.
Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual students and of any class or group of students assigned to you.
Communicating and consulting with the parents/guardians of students.
Advising and co-operating with the Senior Leadership Team, department leader and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements.
Maintaining good relationships with the students and excellent behaviour for learning, safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the College premises and when they are engaged in authorised College activities elsewhere.
Participating in meetings at the College which relate to the curriculum for the College or the administration of organisation of the College, including pastoral arrangements.
Participating in arrangements for preparing students for public examinations and in assessing students for the purposes of such examinations; recording and reporting such assessments; and participating in arrangements for students’ presentation for and supervision during such examinations.

The post holder is managed by the Assistant Principal
