CEO's Introduction
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in joining Danes Educational Trust as the Headteacher at Chancellor's School. This is an exciting time to join both this school and our Trust following our recent expansion to 13 schools, comprising six primaries, six secondaries and a University Technical College. We are continually developing our provision to ensure we make the difference to the outcomes of children across our community. Our vision, values and plans are set out in the Trust’s Strategic Plan.
Our Headteachers form a vital part of a collaborative team of leaders across the Trust who work together to develop optimistic, resilient learners and valued and empowered staff. This leadership is supported by a central team of business professionals including Finance, Human Resources, IT, Marketing and Estates and Governance.
This is a great opportunity for the successful candidate to take the lead on the strategic development and direction of the school, providing the vision, culture and effective leadership necessary to ensure high quality education for all its students. Chancellor's School continued to be ‘Good’ at its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2023.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified teacher with substantial experience in a senior leadership role, currently working as a Deputy Headteacher or Headteacher in a secondary setting. Evidence of successfully implementing strategies to improve teaching and learning, raising standards of achievement, and effectively managing change will be key to success, as will the ability to create a positive personal impact. An NPQH qualification would be an advantage.
Chancellor's School is an all-ability, co-educational state secondary school serving the Welwyn Hatfield area of Hertfordshire. The school continues to be significantly oversubscribed with growing numbers in the sixth form. Students make exceptional progress during their time at the school, and an impressive number of students achieve the very top grades. The school joined Danes Educational Trust in 2019, a partnership that has helped create further exciting and varied opportunities for both staff and students.
You can visit the school website: www.chancellors.herts.sch.uk for further information about the school.
The school vision is for the relentless pursuit of excellence balanced by self-responsibility, compassion and concern for others. Chancellor’s is based on and is proud of a strong partnership between students, parents, staff and governors.

ENJOY their school life – to feel fulfilled in their work and to have mutually beneficial interactions with other students, staff and the wider Chancellor’s community.
EXCEL in every aspect of their education - meeting and often exceeding expectations so that they are ready for life after school.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they share our values, are highly motivated and that they are flexible in their approach. If this is you then we would be delighted to receive your application.
The Trust is committed to the well-being and continuing professional development of all members of staff. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an outstanding and ambitious person.
