Head of Key Stage
Pay Range: MPS/UPS (Fringe Area) Plus TLR1B (£11,412)

Core Purpose
We are seeking a Head of Key Stage who can provide highly effective pastoral care to promote and secure a culture in which students are supported to become
confident and successful individuals. The Head of Key Stage will successfully manage Heads of Year within the key stage to ensure the consistent application of whole
school policies. The Key Stage to be managed will be discussed at the interview. All subject specialisms will be considered.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Head of Year responsibilities for one Year Group within the Key Stage
Manage Heads of Year within the Key Stage ensuring consistently outstanding pastoral care at this level, and in-line with the whole school expectations
Lead and monitor student well-being liaising with Heads of Year, Deputy Headteacher, wider pastoral support staff, parents, and external agencies where necessary
Ensure high standards of behaviour and uniform are maintained
Ensure that academic monitoring of students is carried out efficiently and effectively, in liaison with the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral Care), curriculum leaders and other SLT members
Ensure the high quality and timely provision and monitoring of PSPs, Safety and Support Plans, and RAMPs. Support Heads of Year in identifying the need for such interventions, and in the implementation process.
Contribute as appropriate to the provision and monitoring of student passports and IEPs for students within your Key Stage who have Special Educational Needs in liaison with the SENCO and the relevant Head of Year
Ensure the effective use of Support Staff for the administration of pastoral matters
Ensure that regular communication occurs between pastoral staff in your key stage and parents and carers to meet students’ needs, and address any issues in
a timely manner.
Monitor the punctuality and attendance of students in your Key Stage and the associated record keeping by staff and take appropriate action where necessary, in liaison with Attendance Officer and Line Manager as appropriate
Support Heads of Year within your Key Stage in accessing and liaising with external agencies to sign post and offer additional support to students
Monitor behaviour and rewards on Arbor and ensure appropriate interventions or support are put in place as necessary
Ensure all bullying issues are dealt with in a prompt and effective manner
Support the Heads of Year in conducting investigations into incidents promptly and efficiently, providing the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral Care) with timely and accurate
information and recommendations for action where necessary
Ensure equality of access for all students (including Pupil Premium), suggesting measures where necessary to ensure that the school’s Equality Duty is met
Monitor the attitude to learning and progress of all students, as well as any specific sub groups or individuals, in conjunction with the SLT Line Manager and other senior
leaders
Participate in the weekly duty rota alongside SLT members, including the before and after school duties, break and lunchtime duties, and duties associated with the on-call
system and the isolation room
Contribute to decision making regarding academic pathways and student well-being when students go through a transition process (i.e., secondary transition, Year 9
Options, and KS5 provision) to ensure that their specific learning needs are being met
Work collaboratively with your Heads of year to promote, coordinate and oversee the delivery of activities which generate a sense of community and social well-being for
students in your Key Stage
Oversight of the careful planning of form time provision to incorporate a variety of assemblies, and curriculum or personal development activities
Gather and analyse students’ views on pastoral provision to contribute to school self-evaluation
Conduct parental surveys as necessary to obtain feedback on pastoral provision
Work collaboratively with the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral Care) and the other Head of Key Stage to review pastoral provision, and build and support the implementation of
any necessary strategic development
Meet formally and informally with the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral Care) on a regular basis
Attend all pastoral and inclusion meetings, including weekly AM briefings, fortnightly line management, half-termly pastoral leaders, and half-termly inclusion panel

Ensure fortnightly line management meetings occur with Heads of Year within your Key Stage
Support Heads of Year in managing the performance of their tutor teams
Attend external agency reviews (e.g., managed move progress meetings, integration panel meetings, educational support for medical absences reviews, etc)
Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral Care)
Communication within and about the Key Stage
Prepare and lead regular Key Stage meetings for the Heads of Year
Attend Pastoral Management Meetings
Communicate with the Designated Lead for CLA or Previously CLA in relation to the school’s provision for Looked After or Previously Looked After Children
Liaise with the PSCHE Lead to ensure that the provision is appropriate for your Key Stage, and that it is reviewed in light of any contextual issues
Point of liaison with curriculum middle leaders to support academic interventions
Communicate with the SLT staff member in charge of Pupil Premium
Parents of the Key Stage
Ensure that arrangements for Parents’ Consultation Evenings, Options Evenings and Parent Workshops are made and communicated in a timely manner, liaising with the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral Care) as necessary
Specific Responsibilities
Lead regular Key Stage assemblies
Supervise the entering and leaving of students at full school assemblies
Oversee Litter Duty arrangements
Supervise Pastoral Detentions on a rotation
Co-ordinate and oversee bus duties, creating a rota of tutors and monitoring their presence at the start of each duty
