Is the pricing of food too expensive in Hawaii? Yes, no doubt these are the facts you should know best before coming to Hawaii. Hawaii’s food pricing is the highest in the United States. Inflation plays a big part in food prices. Hawaii's food supply mostly comes from the mainland so that’s the reason why it’s so expensive. The best place to go is Costco if you wanna get food as cheap as possible. Try your best to get deals when buying food so it’s not as expensive. Ever since covid came around, food has been getting even more expensive. According to what’s said by the week, everything is getting more expensive but there’s nothing we can do about it at the moment. The most we can do is protest or argue for what’s right. According to Hawaii Guide “Food in Hawaii is expensive, even if you don't go to a restaurant for each meal. The average cost of food per person per day is about $61”. This is not good for the Hawaii community because people can’t afford when they need it most. For example, people might not have a Costco card or membership if you will, this is what makes everything hard in life because alot of other places are too expensive and it’s hard to live because everyone doesn’t make the same amount of money. Some questions to ask are, What can we do to get the prices cheaper? The most people can do is protest and maybe even complain but we never know what could happen. Who can we go to, to make it happen? We can probably go to the government and Leaders of Hawaii to make changes. Why is it so expensive? It’s expensive because of where the food supply comes from and what it needs to go through. Where is the cheapest place for buying food? You should go to Costco if you want cheap. When will everything be cheaper? Hopefully in the future but as of right now we’ll never know. Who knows how this will affect everything as time passes. It hopefully will get better and things will be easier for people.

When buying food there’s other things that come with the final price of all, which includes the taxing that comes with it. Taxing plays a big role in final pricing of groceries you buy. Taxing is a big part of pricing because it can add a big amount more to the original final added up which makes the food more expensive. But sometimes other people have different opinions on what they want which includes eating out instead of cooking. What’s better: eating out or cooking at home? Ke Ali’i interviewed a family relative named Toni. He knows a lot about food pricing because he's very responsible and goes out and buys people food all the time, even when it’s not for him. According to Toni, he doesn’t really like cooking so this is what he had to say, “Me personally, I like to eat out everyday so I feel it’s too expensive and the prices need to drop”. Eating out instead of buying groceries can be big on your budget because of the fact that the food can come out cheaper when you just buy it and cook it yourself. But eating out has its positives and negatives that come with it. This is said because you never know what they put in the food when you eat out everyday, plus it can be very fattening which makes it more expensive. But of course we all know that eating out everyday is very expensive. Eating out everyday is expensive but if someone has a chance to eat at home it is better so you can save money. Which is good because you don’t want to go broke, it just won’t be right.

But most of all, pricing of food is very expensive in Hawai’i and needs to be better. Toni said, “Ever since Covid food pricing has been going up all the time”. Ever since Covid came around, pricing has been shooting up more and more and that is a big part of the problem including the fact that all supplies get shipped here so that’s what makes it cost more too. The most the locals can do to try and fix the problem is protest but that probably won’t work out the way they want it to. Toni said “It’s hard there’s not much we can do”. But all in all food pricing in Hawaii is too expensive. From here on out it’s probably going to keep going up and they don’t plan on bringing it down. It needs to be fixed. Let’s hope for the best.
