White Plains Beach, located in Ewa Beach, HI at Kalaeloa (the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station), on the westside range of Oahu, is one of the most popping beaches here on the island. Home to many locals, tourists and species, White Plains provides a great hangout space, perfect to have parties, hop on some beautiful waves, frolic in the sand, fish along the left side of the beach or just simply relax with the fam under the Hawaiian sun. White Plains is very accessible and has plentiful parking. Also some amenities include lifeguards, restrooms and showers.
Now for a little history about White Plains, According to wehewehe.org, “the beach takes its name from White Plains Road, the access road to the beach. When the area was originally developed as Barbers Point Naval Air Station, the majority of the streets were named for battles and ships from World War II. The White Plains was an escort aircraft carrier that was built by the Kaiser Shipbuilding Company in 1943 and served as a warship in the Pacific for the duration of the war.”
The beach is a perfect place for both people learning to surf as well as already advanced surfers. As stated by howzitkapolei.com “ It is a long, sloping stretch with numerous surf breaks, but it is also mild enough at the shore for older children to play freely.” This reporter has been to White Plains many times. When people start off as beginners on the inside of White Plains provides them with waves that are tolerable and as they improve their skills they are able to make their way further out to where the waves are a little big with marvelous clean breaks and beautiful rides. many people feel the love, kindness and uplifting energy out in the water and on the sand is impeccable, people are very nice and caring and the aloha is spread throughout the whole area.
As for me I can't even tell you how many times I've been to this beach, White Plains have been my go-to place to go surf it up, or simply catch a getaway from life. One time I went to White Plains with my brother and dad it was a regular day, we were catching waves and just soaking up some saltwater. As I was talking to one of the uncles out on the water this large shadow pulls up right beside me and the only thing I could think of shark which indeed it was a shark that was literally right beside me. upon this moment I was just so scared, speechless, and shocked I began to immidiately paddle right after and actually got one of the biggest waves I faced that they. I rode the wave all the way inside but man oh man was this day one to remember, I give all my thanks to God for nothing bad happening from the occurrence and I'm honestly pretty psyched to have such a story to tell.
In summary, White Plains Beach is just all in all a great place for everyone, with the reasons stated above you can see all the pros of this beach. Lovely people all around, great hang out space, and plenty of waves for beginners and advanced surfers, this place is for everyone.
