The Judo Coache's daughter shared about her experiences being on the judo team
Judo was originally created as a way to strengthen one's body with “maximum efficient use of energy”, according to the Kodokan Judo website. This also contributes to social development like “mutual prosperity for self and others”. Damien Judo is a way of building strength but also a great way to meet new people or learn more about people you already know. Judo is full of building bonds and is like a second family. Miya Kamahele, Judo Coach Sunny's daughter, has shared what it is like for her being on the Damien Judo team.

Like other sports, there are preseason workouts or clinics that players go to, to help build more skill. For preseason, Miya goes to Judo clubs during the summer and before the season to remember proper techniques. These techniques involve falling and throwing properly so she can overall understand what she is learning. Miya says that her favorite part about Judo is the people she works with. She says, “If the people you work with have a terrible attitude then it's very hard for you to enjoy the sport”. She also says, “If the people you work with have a great attitude then I have a great time on the mat”. One of her favorite moves is Osoto Gari because it involves leverage.

Miya says that anyone can join the team, all you need to do is come to the TC Ching for practice. They have tournaments every weekend and states at the end of the season. Our school Judo is in D2 and Coach from Intermediate all the way up to Varsity.
