As the main threat of the Covid-19 virus steadily decreases, the school has been able to open up on many things including optional masking and more student government hosted events such as our start of the year pep rally in August. This trend will continue into the year with the arrival of multiple note-worthy occasions, one of these being Halloween. From the costumes to the candy and fun times with friends, there’s something for everyone on this special day, and at Damien there is no exception! With the upcoming Halloween-themed activities that are about to take place, it is important to know how to make the most of it.
Student government is responsible for many of the special events that go on in this school. This means that they, along with our dean of students Ms. Paishon and school president Dr. Laanui, get to help plan what goes down during school events. As a member of Student Government here at Damien, senior Allen Torralba knows a few of the exciting activities that have been planned for this Halloween. Ke Ali`i caught up with Allen to ask about this year's Shocktober event.
“Yes, costumes will definitely be coming back” says Allen. For the first time since 2019, a live costume contest and a full dress down day for students to display their full costume has been planned on Monday, October 31. Not only do Torralba’s words spark excitement, they also give hope to the community here that not only will this October be awesome, but the celebrations to follow will be just as astounding. Along with the costume contest mentioned above, there will be a door decoration contest for all classes, and both winners of each competition will be awarded a spooky prize! In the same week, Boo-grams are also coming back this year and can be purchased for $1 to send to any friends or sweethearts.
So make sure to bring a spooky or silly costume (appropriate, of course!) and be ready for an abundance of scares! Damien Shocktober is officially back and better than ever!
