Everyone loves to listen to music, and most people are very specific about their taste! Almost everyone on campus has a favorite genre or song of all time, and Damien students want to learn more about it. Focusing on their thoughts and opinions regarding music, three different teens were asked what they are currently listening to and what their favorite genres are at the moment.
Eleventh grader Alexis Kishida says she has been “listening to the Ms. Lana Del Rey”. Her favorite genre at the moment is country music. When asked about her favorite song, she responded with, “my favorite song at the moment is ‘Right Where You Left Me’ by queen Taylor Swift.” She believes strongly that “the best component of a song is the background vocals that bring a new meaning to the song.” Alexis is someone who cares deeply about music and her song choices, just like many other teens here on campus.
Twelfth grader Mikayla Quinata was interviewed next. The artist she has been listening to is Novo Amor. Currently, her favorite genre is sad music. “My favorite song currently is 'Romantic Homicide' by d4vd,” Mikayla says. In her opinion, the best component of a song is tone. Mikayla explains, “tone is what makes the overall sound of music good.”
Ke Ali`i` also spoke with Eighth grader Alana Lungay. Recently she has been “mainly listening to R&B.” Alana doesn't have a favorite genre or song because she has been listening to many different types of music. She believes the best component of a song is the meaning behind it “so you can understand what the story behind the song is about, also to feel closer to the artist.”
All in all, Damien students have a vast and unique preference for music. Music is constantly changing, and so is everybody’s taste. However, one thing will stay the same, and that is the love for songs and the art of creating new sounds for everybody to enjoy!
