School Overview
Rosie Sorrells School of Education and Social Services (ESSM) is an urban public magnet high school serving motivated 9th through 12th graders from all backgrounds in Dallas Independent School District (DISD). The academic program at ESSM emphasizes college preparedness in all core subjects with a pathway in Education or Human Services. Our vision is to cultivate culturally competent citizens to impact their scope of influence through education and service.
The ESSM experience is framed around early exposure in the fields of Education and Human Services. Students take Principles of Human Services their freshman year to get exposed to careers and explore areas of the field, before selecting their pathway as a sophomore. All students earn the Texas Education Agency's Public Services and Multidisciplinary endorsement by graduation, however many ESSM students graduate with STEM and Humanities endorsement too. ESSM students are required to complete 100 hours of community service by graduation, typically completing 25 hours per year. Furthermore, students complete an internship senior year in their selected pathway. Students take eight courses per year on a block schedule.
