Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there certain clothes that should be worn for practice?
Eagle Wrestlers of all levels need to wear clean practice gear, every day. Shorts or sweatpants and a t-shirt are best. Avoid baggy clothes. Hoodies and jeans can be dangerous, so they are not allowed. Junior high wrestlers must have wrestling shoes. Little Eagles are encouraged to have wrestling shoes, but they are not required. Any wrestlers without wrestling shoes will work out in socks.
What special equipment does my wrestler need?
Little Eagles only need practice gear. Junior High wrestlers will be issued a singlet, headgear, warmup shirt and shorts, as well as a gear bag to keep it all in. All wrestlers will need their own wrestling shoes. If your family is facing hardship, contact our coaches to see if we have any used shoes in your wrestler's size.
Where do I find wrestling shoes?
Try Dick's Sporting Goods, Amazon, Zappos, Wrestlingmart. Recommended brands are Asics, Rudis, Adidas. Don't spend too much! There is nothing a $100 dollar shoe will do for your wrestler that a $50 shoe won't.
My wrestler is in 4th grade. Do I need to walk in and sign them out?
Yes, all wrestlers in the Little Eagles Wrestling Club 1st - 4th grade must be signed out by a listed guardian. All parents and guardians must come inside the elementary doors to sign out their wrestler.
Do Little Eagles have meets?
Little Eagles do not have meets, only practices scheduled. The meets on the calendar are for the Richland Wrestling Team (5th - 8th grade). The days of home meets the LIttle Eagles will not be practicing. There will be practice when the Junior High team has away meets. Please plan accordingly.
Does my wrestler need to cut weight?
No! Please see our Diet and Exercise for team policy on weight and nutrition. It is important to understand that your wrestler's weight will likely drop slightly during the season. Also, wrestlers may occasionally drop a pound or two for a particular meet. This is not cutting weight. This is normal and healthy. Starving, crash dieting, or other weight control methods are never encouraged and are not allowed.
What are meet day procedures?
First, parents, please attend!! Seeing friendly faces in the crowd is always great for our wrestlers. Please be aware of the schedule and sign up for the Stack Team app, available on Apple and Android to receive any updates.
For away meets, the school will offer transportation to and from the host schools. You can find addresses to our opponents here. A message will be sent to you through the Stack Team app with an approximate return time and you will need to be prompt to pick your wrestler up. If you are able to attend the away match, you can take your wrestler directly home. In this case, all wrestlers must be signed out. If you want your wrestler to go home with another trusted adult, you must communicate with the coaches ahead of time
For home meets, all wrestlers must stay and help until all mats, chairs, and other gear are put away.
During meets, wrestlers will not have their phones out or on them, and will be expected to sit with their team. Immediately after having a match, wrestlers are allowed to briefly go up into the stands and talk with family before coming back to support the rest of the team.
**Important**
For ALL meets, all wrestlers need to bring water and a healthy snack for after weigh-ins. Do NOT send your wrestler with money for the concession stand. Saturday tournaments are long days, so send your wrestler with *plenty* to eat.
Where can I find the addresses to away meets?
Opponents' addresses can be found here. If there is an error or any missing addresses, please let us know!
If my wrestler loves the sport and wants to do more, are there club options in the area?
Yes! Here are some links to nearby clubs and summer camps. Make sure to tell them you are part of Richland Wrestling!
