Cross Country has barely started since the start of the season this year was the Monday before school started. With already 2 races under their belt this season. With another race coming up this Saturday at CMU they are starting the year off strong!
We talked to returning runner Brady Russell about how the sport cross country works, “It is from 7 schools to like 15. We can only carry 7 on varsity, so it goes boys varsity, then it goes girls varsity which they run after the boy's varsity. Then we have JV girls and JV boys. So there are really four races.”
With Cross Country on the rise, we were able to interview Miranda Pike, a senior on the team with this being her 2nd year. We asked her since it is her senior year how she felt, “It is kind of sad being a senior and like barely doing cross country because I haven't had very much experience with it but it is really fun to be the upperclassmen trying to help people like get interested in cross country and help them with their season.” We asked Miranda why she started to do cross country, “My brother actually introduced me to it because he did it his senior year and he said it was really fun and I decided to do it as well because he liked it so I decided to do it.” We asked her how she was feeling about this season, “I am very excited about it because I have already seen most of the people improve on their skills and all that and get faster with running and I am really excited for all the meets that we are going to they are going to be really pretty.”
With cross country started and with so many scheduled meets this year make sure to go show your palisade spirit and cheer on your fellow peers!
