With tensions high, as Pueblo East is taking the lead by 23-0 against Pueblo South, a friendly rivalry between the two teams quickly broke out into a full on brawl on the sidelines. With there being no news on why the fight broke out, Pueblo South was then the team that got disqualified due to South initiating the brawl.
When talking with Alexander Everett in an interview he says, “On the football field there’s some beef going around, there’s beef going on and off the field but I’d say in general the (inaudible) are pretty calm with the fights, we handle them pretty well.” Comparing our Palisade football game experiences with how Pueblo East vs South handled their game and the fight. Following what he said Alex was asked if the beef ever escalated to the point where it got bad, and his response was, “Not to the point where we have gotten in trouble, we know how to control ourselves.”
If by any chance, Palisade happens to get in a fight with another school, many people including Alex Everett would be disappointed in our team because we don’t want to show people who know nothing about our school that we may be a violent team. That isn’t what Palisade is about. And Alex agrees with this saying, “I’d be disappointed and just the outcome of what happened when I know we could do better, and I want people to know that’s not what Palisade is about and that we are only here to not be aggressive and just to have fun and play ball.”
Furthermore, when Palisade played Pueblo before there was no sign of aggression, so when that brawl took place between South and East, you can imagine the surprise it may have taken on some of our players. “That game was surprising, it surprised me pretty much because we played Pueblo last year and nothing really big happened,” was also said by Alex.
