With the eye of the storm directly hitting Florida many citizens proceeded to follow the instructions they were given and evacuate their homes days before the hurricane hit land. While some don’t feel the need to evacuate, and that they will be safe in the comfort of their own homes. Even though hurricane Ian is heading straight towards them with the terrifyingly powerful rate of a category 4.
With the heavy rains along with strong winds, falling trees, and rushing water, hurricane Ian has already brought severe damage to Cuba, this is all still happening before reaching Florida, this just giving us the idea of how life-threatening this storm may turn out to be.
Including that hurricane Ian is a category 4 hurricane just before entering Florida and nearing a category 5, it is considered to be one of the most major storms. This is due to how high the risk of damage and the loss of lives are. With Category 1 being the least amount of dangerous and life- threatening.
In an interview with Dejiah Barela she stated, “I feel like it’s mutual I get some people don’t wanna leave their homes and I get people want to leave because it can be scary.” This explains that people may not want to leave Florida because their whole life is in the comfort of their own homes and they may not want to leave it, but for their own safety leaving would be the smarter choice, with Dejiah speaking from past experience from a category 3 hurricane in Utah, when a tree fell on her house.
