The Palisade High School Bulldogs took home their first win in a nail biter last Friday, September 23 against Golden High School. The Palisade Bulldogs started their matchup against the Golden Demons at 4 p.m. After being back and forth all game the Bulldogs came out on top winning 36-35 in overtime. The boys came out of the locker room itching for a win and were not going to lose without a fight. Their record going into the game was 0-4 and they were not about to let that become 0-5. Malakhi Espinosa led the team in touchdowns finishing the game with three followed by Rhett Ward with two. Rhett Ward also scored a two-point conversion eventually winning the game. Tyrus Despain led the team in tackles with four recorded solo tackles and four assists.
According to some of the boys, they worked hard at practice on the things that had been letting them down. The Bulldogs have a strong team this year. When asked what helped them make a turn and win the game against Golden senior, Rhett Ward, said “Teamwork, kind of the whole season we have been struggling to play as one and as a unit and that game we finally did and things started moving and that's when we went to work.” Rhett Ward believes that they need to stick to teamwork and work together to start a winning streak. The Palisade Bulldogs had a bye week this week but are using it to prepare for their homecoming game next Friday, September 7 at 7 p.m. at Stocker Stadium.
