Last weekend on Saturday Palisade had an overnight trip to Crested Butte for a big yearly race. Every year Emma Coburn, an Olympian for the USA puts on a race for high school cross country teams and the community. She uses the proceeds she makes from this race for the Crested Butte cancer support community. In the last few years, Palisade has gone to this race and improved from it. Emma invites other Olympians to go to her race and meet the high schoolers. Brielle Sorensen, a sophomore at Palisade and one of the varsity girls for the cross country said “Cross country is lots of fun, I really love and enjoy the environment. Everyone is so friendly and I’m close with everyone on the team. Crested Butte Elk Run was my favorite run so far, the scenery was beautiful, and seeing Emma Coburn was an awesome opportunity.”
Keegan Seymour, a junior at Palisade high school, had a lot to say about the Elk Run. "I thought it was super fun and a good experience for the whole team and it was cool seeing Emma and all the other Olympians there.” He said “The race felt very challenging. It was against good runners and great athletes but everyone on the team performed well and pushed through. It was one of our last challenging races with altitude, so looking forward I'm looking for big PRs.” This is Keegan's first year running cross country and he “really enjoys cross country and the people in it and getting out and running after school every day feels really nice.” With only a few weeks left in the season, Keegan said that “We've really Come a long way since the beginning of the season and I wanna see how we finish building up to regionals. I can tell practices have heated up since the last race and everyone is in the mindset to do well the next few weeks.”
