Is National Cheeseburger day just a day to celebrate a juicy burger or is it something a little bit more? Last Sunday the 18th of September was national cheeseburger day. This tradition of celebrating burgers was started in 1924 a few years after the first person put a slice of cheese on a hamburger. There is a large number of businesses that have discounts and advertising for their cheeseburgers on this day. Mr. Massengil, an English teacher at Palisade High School has some very strong opinions about national cheeseburger day and what it really means. “It's all a conspiracy,” Mr. Massengil said. “I bet it is highly endorsed by members of the beef industry in the United States.” He said. “I'm a little bit dubious sometimes when it comes to these artificial holidays that make people buy certain things. I also can't imagine the cows are supporting this day very much,” said Mr. Massengil “I bet it’s utterly disdainful for the cows so they might try to hoof it to another celebration. The fact that I don't know much about this day is proof of how invasive these holidays are. Ignorance is one of the first signs of the presence of a conspiracy because you've been kept ignorant about it your whole life and it could have been a conspiracy for over 50 years.” Mr. Massengil says to everyone at Palisade, “This is something deeply embedded in our American fabric and I think it's time we do something about it. I'm not sure if I'm ready to pick at it yet but I think I'm ready to start a movement”
