Sofia Grasso is a student at Grand Junction High School who has been in a critical situation since Sunday the 11th. Family members, friends, and students have been coming together and praying for a miracle for Sofia.
Sofia Grasso is a Junior and plays varsity volleyball. She has AVM, which is a tangle of blood vessels that connect arteries and veins in the brain. According to Senior Sophia Dewitt, Sofia was driving home last Sunday when one of her arteries in her brain ruptured. Sofia received emergency surgery due to this awful rupture. She was then taken on Flight For Life to the Denver hospital, where she again received emergency surgery. Sophia Dewitt said, “As of now, she is still sedated because they are waiting for the swelling to go down in her brain. It is just a waiting game right now. Once her swelling goes down they can wake her up and see what damage the rupture did on her brain.”
On Tuesday the 13th, students showed much love and support towards Sofia Grasso at a Grand Junction volleyball game against Fruita Monument High School. Everyone showed up wearing pink for the reason that pink is Sofia’s favorite color. Before the volleyball game they did a huge thing and prayed for Sofia. Three of Sofia’s best friends all wore jerseys for her and got her flowers. “It was super cool just seeing the community being there for her,” said Sophia Dewitt. Other ways students are showing their support for Sofia are through huge prayer circles and young life gatherings. Sophia Dewitt said, “The Palisade High School volleyball team put together during practice little goody bags with a bunch of snacks that said ‘Thinking of you, from Palisade volleyball.’ There is also a gofundme page to help raise money for the cost and other stuff.”
Sofia Grasso most definitely needs all of the prayers and support she can get right now.
