It's that time of year when the annual college fair comes around for sophomores, juniors, and seniors to get a look at the options available for their future and for college. This year Palisade was lucky enough to host it. Students from all over the district came to Palisade this Tuesday to get a look at colleges around the country, including Regis, Colorado Mesa University, and Colorado School of Mines. I talked to Karina DeJesus, an admissions counselor at Regis University, “We really like going to the mountains specifically because our campus is a lot smaller because we think students will really vibe with our school because it’s smaller and kind of has a more city feel.”
Many students had different outlooks on what they were going to be looking for at the college fair this year. Many knew exactly what they were looking for pertaining to college and their future. Jaida Bency said, “I’m trying to find what environmental courses certain schools offer.” Some even knew the certain colleges in particular they were looking at. “I really want to go into forensics. I’ve been really interested in Colorado Mountain College,” Samantha Alexander was explaining. Some didn’t know exactly what college they wanted to go to, but definitely knew the region they wanted. “I’m not really looking to go to college out of state,” says Morgan Montgomery. Oliver Shrader said, “I really want to go to college in Canada, and as we know there are no colleges from there today, but it’s nice to know what colleges are looking for in general.” Others were just open to looking even though they weren’t quite sure what they wanted. Andrew Kirschenmann said, “I’m not looking for anything specifically, I’m just feeling out the colleges, and seeing what all the colleges are up to.”
After talking to everyone, clearly the college fair was a success, even for those who weren’t quite sure of their plan for the future.
