The male athlete of the week is a senior this year at Palisade high school, Niko Moreno. We were able to interview him and ask him some questions. We asked him how long he has been playing football, “I have been playing football since the 8th grade so this is my 5th year.” We asked him about the position he plays on the football team, “I play tackle both ways, basically, it’s on the line. I help protect Malakhi and help protect my dogs.” Niko does not play any other sports at school, “I used to play baseball, but I might get back into that.” We wanted to know why Niko chose to play football, “It’s kinda like my getaway. I get to go out there for a couple of hours and legally assault men for fun. My family just wanted me to play so I kinda just got into it.” Niko is planning on furthering both his football career and his education after high school by playing on a real team, he is just unsure of which team. Asking Niko what he likes to do in his free time he answered, “I like to cook and I also like to cut hair and hang out with friends.” Niko has played 17 games in total and had 20 solo tackles. Per game, he has at least 3 tackles and in total there have been 53 tackles. Niko has also made 1 fumble recovery this year. Let’s make sure Niko’s last year is full of spirit so don’t forget to show up to the games and show your school pride!
