Junior Mikayla Talbott is the female athlete of the week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Mikayla is one of the starting pitchers for the Palisade High School softball team and has helped lead her team to have an undefeated record so far. Mikayla has an average E.R.A (earned run average) of 3.46 combined through her freshman, sophomore, and start of her junior year. So far she has struck out 21 out of 66 batters she has faced this year. Mikayla has only allowed for one run to be scored in the 17 innings that she has pitched this year. She has a current batting average of 0.250. She is working hard on and off the field and coming back after a shoulder injury that kept her from most of last season.
Mikayla has been playing softball for 8 years through competitive and high school ball. She started playing as an interest of hers and she also wanted to play a sport similar to her twin brother. When asked why she plays to this day she said, “I still play for fun and the enjoyment of watching others love the game.” Something that she would tell a younger version of herself would be to “keep working hard.” Outside of softball, she enjoys hanging out with friends and family. A fun fact is her favorite food is beef wellington. Come to support Mikayla and the Palisade Bulldogs softball team as they take on Montrose Thursday, September 1st at 4 p.m. at Palisade High School.
