Just the beginning of Zenon Reece’s Senior Cross Country season. Zenon is a senior at Palisade this year. He has run cross country all 4 years of high school while keeping up with the school choir and being in the play. The male athlete of the week this week is Cross Country runner Zenon Reece. At this week's meet, Zenon placed first out of 22 other runners. “Winning was something I was aiming for but getting that was very exciting because I've never actually won a cross country race before so even though it was a small meet it still gave me a boost of confidence.” he said “I've been training really hard and winning was a good indicator of where I am as a runner” Coming in at 17 minutes and 11 seconds almost an entire minute faster than the second-place scorer. In an interview with Zenon, he says, “It's kinda nice being an athlete of the week because it gets recognition for me outside of my sport and it helps bring recognition to my sport because cross country is a bit of a smaller sport and it helps bring people in.” When I asked him about the race that he ran on Saturday he said, “It was good, it was the home course so I have been running it for years and I knew my way around the course but also I just felt confident because there were people on the course helping out and cheering us on because it was the home meet.” This coming up weekend the cross country team will be traveling to Denver for a race and this is what Zenon told us when asked about that, “We have a fast course this week so I'm hoping to P.R.(Personal Record) there and then keep ramping it up till regionals.” he said, “I feel pretty good about his race, I haven't done well the last few years at this race but I'm gonna try to get around it this year and see what happens.” We are very excited to see how Zenon does the rest of his senior year and wish him luck.
