Jump-serves, sets, and “mine.” These terms may seem unusual when first heard by any other individual, but to volleyball girls, this calls for battle on the court.
Since summer, these girls have been practicing at open gyms and putting in the time they need to get better. After surviving the brutal tryouts, the three teams were finally formed into Varsity, JV, and C team. A recent JV and C team tournament was held over the past weekend on Friday, August 19 and Saturday the 20. With games held all day, the overall result was a success. Both teams won many of their games and didn’t back down without a fight. Many girls try out each season to make the team and around a quarter actually do. Being a part of the volleyball team is an exciting event that definitely adds to the high school experience. With each match and serve across the net, the power and thrill of playing a game will always stick. The effort these girls put into each practice to do well in their games is phenomenal, with each practice currently being around 3 hours after school. Last season the Bulldogs made it to state, this year they hope to do the same.
Welcoming some new talent onto the team is how they hope to achieve this. Lyla Lancaster (freshman) plays for the C team and says after winning 3 out of 4 of her games: “it’s going to go really well this year. . . Gracie Higman is an awesome coach.” She has been playing the game since 7th grade and is happy to make the team with plans to continue playing throughout high school. We all wish the best of luck to these girls as their 2022 season continues!
