To start off the year with school spirit at 110% the school had our first of many school assemblies and events last Friday, August 19th. We talked to many students and StuCo representatives and asked about what happened. We asked Johanna Tanori, a junior this year at palisade high school, what the assembly was really about, “It was about coming back to school and showing all the clubs and stuff that everyone is in, we showed the representation, and then we learned about the new pack app that was made and basically that was it.”
This year's assembly was the first high school assembly for our whole freshman grade. We got to talk to Will Seriani, an incoming freshman, and asked him to rate the assembly on a scale of 1-10, “I’d give it a ten because I had a really good time, I got to see a lot of people I don’t get to see like the seniors.”
We got to interview another junior Cache Davis and asked her about the assembly, “They played this one game where it was like, they picked 2 students from each grade and they put a ball in front of them, then they would touch different parts of their body until the person said ball then whoever grabbed the ball first won.” The people who took part in the game consisted of, Bryan Rosman, DeAngelo Dyer, Joe Bravo, Makayla Trousdale, Jace Woolery, Lauren Cox, and the winner of the game was the freshman with Jace Woolery.
When we talked to Johanna Tanori and asked about the BBQ that took place the same Friday as the assembly she told us, “They just had the hotdogs and hamburgers and they gave us water bottles. I feel like there was a lot of miscommunication this year because at first nobody really wanted to go because there was a rumor going around saying that everyone had to pay for the food, yeah that started going around so everyone just thought that was true. So no one really wanted to go in the first place and even check it out but yeah it was cool.”
For our last interview, we were able to get with Mr. Smith the student council advisor, and talk about the preparation for the assembly, “Planning the assembly, cause we’re really only in charge of the assembly, our student council had a very difficult start to this year for a couple of reasons, one is I'm brand new, Mr. Carlo before had been doing it for 20 years, we have a lot of new members, we started on a Friday which was kinda a weird day, nicer than what I would call it. So we really slammed. The biggest thing was trying to work efficiently and effectively, and trying to create basically the tightest assembly that we could do. So we did have a limited amount of time so we got very intentional with making sure that we included parts of the assembly that were most important in order to really just focus on the basics.”
With the school year being started with an assembly and BBQ school spirit is at a high point at the beginning of the year! Let’s keep this momentum going on forth and show our school spirit at events, games, dances, and whatever else is to come!
