One week into school and the campus rules are getting stricter.
There have been reports from the faculty of underclassmen sneaking out during closed campus lunchtime. This is causing the administration to tighten up on the closed campus rules for freshmen and sophomores, and having parents sign their kids in and out of school from now on.
For a while, underclassmen have been able to find unique ways to have an open campus lunch like the upperclassmen. Our principal, Dan Bollinger, explained some of these ways. “We’ve had situations where kids use their phone to call themselves out, siblings call their siblings out, and in some rare situations we’ve had parents that call their children out.”
This retaliation though is no surprise as most underclassmen think the closed campus rules are unfair. One freshman, Jackson Martin, had this to say, “I know why they do it, but I think it’s unfair, and that we should be able to leave campus if we have a ride.”
Although many underclassmen feel this way, the administration's goal is to keep the kids safe, and by doing that with consistency, even if that means going the extra mile with check-ins and doctor’s notes after appointments. “We believe those systems and structures we put in place are good and good for kids,” Principal Bollinger states, “To have a system that is more consistent with all, we have to try and close loopholes, and that’s our way to do it.”
