Colorado police are now investigating Ja Morant after the basketball player was suspended from the Memphis Grizzlies for his recent actions. The star player had posted an Instagram Live where he displayed what appeared to be a gun at a nightclub in Glendale Colorado. The police department is trying to decipher if he broke any gun laws. Colorado is an open-carry state, but there are exceptions to that law including carrying a gun on federal property. The NBA states that they prohibit their players from carrying a firearm while on team property or traveling with their team. Others suspect he was intoxicated during the time of the video, but it hasn’t been proven yet. The Memphis Grizzlies Coach, Taylor Jenkins, says that Morant is indefinitely benched from playing basketball with the team. This isn’t just the only incident Morant has been involved with recently. Last month there was a lawsuit that was pressed against him involving a teenage boy. The 17 year old boy said that Morant hit him after he threw a ball at the boy, and the boy threw it back hard hitting Morant in the chin. The boy said Morant lunged at him and hit him 12 or 13 times. The boy said Ja went back into his house and came out with a gun in his waistband, but his dad came out from the house and got him back inside.
Ozkar Crouch, a freshman at Palisade said, “I understand why he has gotten benched from playing because those actions aren’t right, but I don’t see the need for him to go to jail because of the nightclub incident.”
Whether you think he should be imprisoned or not, we wish the 17 year old victim to find the justice he deserves.
