TikTok has been a growing app for many people, such as teenagers, adolescents, and others. Although for users under the age of 18, TikTok will be automatically setting a 60-minute daily screen limit.
The use of TikTok has become increasingly popular among young people, particularly teenagers, and adolescents. With the rise in popularity of the app has come a heightened interest in the potential effects of excessive screen time on users’ physical and mental health. TikTok has been criticized for its potential to lead to excessive screen time, as users can be spending hours a day creating and engaging with content on the app.
In an interview with a sophomore Julia Schiff and a freshman Makail Kofoed, they both had very different opinions on the TikTok screen time. Julia Schiff said, “I think that having the screen time is really dumb because we spend way more time on our phones in general than 60 minutes on TikTok, plus there’s a passcode you can just put in and you can continue watching.” Julia usually has a screen time of 3 or 4 hours as a 16-year-old. With Makail they said, “I feel like it’s kind of a good thing because it allows people to see how addicted they are to just one app. It is also kind of necessary because it takes teens away from one app.” Makail a 15-year-old spends about 2 hours a day on this social media app.
The Tik Tok 60-minute screen time limit is a feature that has been implemented in recent months to help combat the growing problem of children spending too much time on their phones and tablets. The feature works by limiting the amount of time a user can spend on the app to 60 minutes per day. After the time limit has been reached, the user is unable to access the app until the following day. This feature helps parents to ensure that their children are not spending too much time on their devices and that they are engaging in other activities such as playing with friends or reading books.
