As Spring is coming the tryouts for all the spring sports come also. Girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse, girls tennis, girls soccer, girls golf, boys swim, boys baseball, and track are just a few of the many spring sports that started earlier this week.
Hank DeFord, a freshman at Palisade, and a track and field athlete said, “This is my first year doing track and the team is a no-cut team. There are no tryouts and it's been just like practice.” Emily Hardin, a freshman at Palisade and a soccer player said, “I’ve been playing soccer for 4 years. Tryouts have been going pretty good, there's not a lot of girls going out for soccer this year, but I really like the coach and it's been fun.” Madi Degeorge, a freshman, and lacrosse player said, “I’ve been playing lacrosse for 3 years. Our team doesn’t cut anyone, so mostly the past few days have been a start to practice and an introduction to drills. It's been really fun to get to know all my teammates. Saturday we have some scrimmages from 9:00 a.m to 2 p.m. if people want to come.” Hailey Ammons, a freshman, and tennis player said, “ I’ve been playing for about 2 years. This is also a no-cut team, so instead, we do these challenge matches so the coaches can place you in either varsity or JV.” Kate Fricke, a freshman, and a soccer player said, “I’ve been playing for 10 years. Tryouts have been good, we’ve been doing a lot of conditioning. We find out what team we make either at the end of tryouts Wednesday or Thursday.” Although a lot of the spring sports are no-cut teams there are still rankings throughout the team which decipher whether the athletes are J.V. or varsity players.
Tryouts have been going well for many of our athletes, and we wish them the best of luck as the spring season starts.
