Recently a powerful winter snow storm has swept down to the west coast and has brought floods and insanely cold temperatures to the busy cities of L.A. and other places in California. The low temperatures are not even the biggest worry as rivers rise to dangerous levels. The National Weather Service put out a statement saying that this is one of the strongest storms to ever hit Southern California. Not only did severe rain and wind fall, but so did heavy snowfall even into elevations as low as 1000 feet. Blizzard warnings are continuing to be announced in the mountainous regions, along with some flood warnings around the regions too. Forecasters have said though, that the storm should stop in a few days. After the fierce storms have been terrorizing the region, more than 117,000 California Utility customers remain without electricity, and Interstate 5 stayed closed due to the heavy snow. The L.A. Fire Department had to rescue 4 homeless citizens who were stranded in the Los Angeles River’s river basin, and two were taken to the hospital due to hypothermia. Early Saturday morning the beaches along L.A. were closed due to excessive amounts of lightning.
Ozkar Crouch, a freshman at Palisade said, “I’ve been to California a few times and I genuinely just can’t imagine the sunny weather turning that severely cold. I think that the fact that this is one of the strongest storms to ever hit Southern California just shows how crazy this storm truly is.”
