Last Friday night, February 24, the annual Mr. Palisade contest took place. The Mr. Palisade contest is a contest geared towards boys at Palisade High School. It is a talent contest where boys can show off their best talents or skits. There are three judges that score the contestants along with everyone that comes and watches the contest has a chance to vote. The audience can vote using dollars where one dollar equals one vote. The contest is very similar to any pageant contest like Miss U.S.A. The contestants dress up, answer questions, and show off their talents. There are four categories that the contestants compete in. The first one is a spirit category, then a talent category, then a beauty category, then an intellect category.
After the boys showed off their talents the audience was given the opportunity to go out for an intermission and cast their votes. The contestants then changed into their best which for most of the contestants included dresses. After intermission the last interviews and questions with the contestants took place. Then it was time for the judges to count up the final votes. After a few moments, they announced the winner to be Ryker Harsha. As Ryker was celebrating with a crown on his head and sash around his shoulders one of the judges stood up and called out, “there has been a miscount.” They then proceeded to take the crown and sash away from Harsha and they announced Teagan Brannan as the winner. Ryker Harsha is a senior and gave his insight on the contest. He said, “My favorite part of the contest was the atmosphere.” To prepare for the contest he got Chick-fil-a. He also commented on how he was announced winner at first, “I really need to have a word with all of the judges, it was pretty stupid.”
