A poisoning that first started on November 30, 2022, has continued to take place, seriously affecting the option of whether parents should continue sending their girls to school. This poisoning continues in 2023 when a group of schoolgirls in Iran were poisoned by their school's water supply.
The incident was a shock to the community and the entire nation, as it was the first time something of this magnitude had occurred in Iran. Reports indicated that the poisoning was caused by a chemical found in the water, which had likely been present for some time. It is believed that the chemical was introduced into the water supply by someone with malicious intent, though no suspects have been identified. The effects of the poisoning were severe and long-lasting. Many of the girls were hospitalized and suffered from physical and mental ailments, including nausea, dizziness, and headaches.
Another shocking incident occurred in Iran where a group of schoolgirls was poisoned by gas. Reports indicate that the girls were in the middle of their morning classes when the gas began to spread through their classrooms. Many of the girls also began to suffer from the effects of the gas, the same as stated before. In an interview with Ana Morales-Reyes, she stated, “I find it stupid that many people don’t want to see girls in school, it’s like we are moving back in time and also that they would go to such lengths to stop them from going to school.” When asked if she would still go to school if this were to happen here at Palisade she said, “I would still go to school unless there was an option for an online school because I still need my education, although if it was gas that was being spread through the vents I’m not sure if I would stay, but if I was a mother I would not send my kids to school because I wouldn’t want to have them to have to experience that.”
The authorities have yet to determine the source of the gas, but it is believed to be related to a nearby chemical plant. The plant had recently been inspected and found to comply with safety regulations, so it is unclear how the gas was released. Some experts are speculating that the incident may be related to a terrorist attack because people don’t want girls to attend school, although this has not been confirmed.
